features some of the very best places to drink and dine in our entire state. Next time you're in the area, take a look at a few of our favorite restaurants in the following zip codes: 48226, 48201, and 48243.
♦ Roast ♦
Roast is an elegant steakhouse located on Washington Ave in downtown Detroit. If you are like us and you have a real love of delicious seafood and perfectly cooked steaks, then you really owe it to yourself to check this one out. It's upscale and very trendy, and they even have a full bar for your enjoyment. The filet mignon with crab bearnaise is our favorite thing on the menu, and the fried brussels sprouts go perfectly with that or with any other entree on the menu. You will also want to give the beef cheek pierogies a try. The roasted marrow is a very nice feature, and the burger that gets its name from the restaurant is definitely a winner, complete with fried egg and bacon. Really delicious meals here, and though of course the prices are high, they are absolutely worth it. You can find Roast at 1128 Washington Ave.
♦ Lafayette Coney Island ♦
Lafayette is one of the longest standing coney islands in downtown Detroit, and once you have visited a time or two, you will understand why. They have all your favorites here, from deliciously greasy sliders to wonderful coneys. We love getting a hot cup of coffee along with our meal here, and just soaking up all that old fashioned atmosphere. The service is super quick, and this is definitely one of the fastest places to get in and out of when you are in Detroit and want a meal that doesn't take up an hour and a half of your precious time. Still, you never feel rushed, and the employees here always make you feel welcome. You will be able to find Lafayette Coney Island at 118 W Lafayette Blvd.
♦ Pegasus Taverna ♦
Pegasus Taverna is one of our favorite restaurants in Greektown, with some of the very best food around representing Greece and the Mediterranean very well. The saganaki is some of the best that we have ever tasted, and we've had it at literally every single spot in Greektown! The vegetarian trio is our favorite thing here, particularly for that delicious vegetarian moussaka. The spanakopita is really great here, and we love the dolmas too. We consider ourselves baklava conossieurs, and we can vouch for the fact that it's really the best of the best here. We especially love the lamb kabobs and the grilled octopus. Really friendly staff and a great laid back yet warm atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. You can find Pegasus Taverna at 558 Monroe St.
♦ Cliff Bells ♦
Cliff Bells is a famous jazz and blues venue and restaurant where you can get both your food fix and your music fix in one wonderful place! Of course the full bar doesn't hurt any either! We recommend starting off with a hot chocolate martini and perhaps one of their renowned shrimp cocktails! That will get you in the mood for some great jazz and amazing food. The macaroni and cheese is some of the best that we have had in the downtown area, and we also adore their bibb salad and delicious french fries. Yes, there is a cover charge here. Yes, it is worth that and more. People love this place for good reason and it's about time that you find out how great it is for yourself! Nothing but good times here, and we very highly recommend this one. You can find Cliff Bells at 2030 Park Ave.
♦ Fishbone's Rhythm Kitchen Cafe ♦
Fishbone's Rhythm Kitchen Cafe has always been one of our favorite places to go in Detroit, located conveniently right near all our favorite Greektown restaurants, and having the most impressive Cajun/Creole seafood dishes that you will find anywhere. Our favorite has always been the crawfish etouffe, and they also have a great sushi menu which was a surprising addition but one that they have pulled off very well! They have an array of delicious hot sauces on each table so you can dress up your dish to your liking, and as huge fans of great hot sauce, we really love this feature. There are many Fishbone's locations throughout Michigan now, but this one will always be the best. You can find Fishbone's Rhythm Kitchen Cafe at 400 Monroe St. One of our very highest recommendations!
♦ Comerica Park ♦
Though you might not think of including Comerica Park on a list of bars and restaurants, there are certainly many places within the home of the Detroit Tigers where you can get a great meal and some drinks! There's the Asian Tiger in the food court, Sliders behind Section 103 near Gate B, ice cream in the food court, Big League Grill in multiple sections throughout the park, Brushfire Grill in section 131, Chicago-style Hot Dogs & Fries in the food court, Dippin Dots in four different sections (129, 148, 214, and 334), Frozen Daquiris in multiple sections (133, 141, 330, and in the food court), Hot Fries in multiple sections (143, 151, and 336), Lemons & Ears in the food court, Little Caesars in many areas of the park, Mexican in the food court, Sidekicks in the fod court, and of course the many candy, cotton candy, roasted peanuts, sausage, Italian beef sandwich, nachos, bratwurst, and hot dog portable stands that are setup throughout the park! You can find Comerica Park at 2100 Woodward Ave.
♦ Foran's Grand Trunk Pub ♦
Foran's Grand Trunk Pub gets major props from us because of their use of local products and beers, and also because of that wonderfully authentic atmosphere and great service. We have enjoyed their reuben sandwiches many times here, and their fish and chips are also really noteworthy. If you're a fan of pulled pork you will definitely want to check out their pulled pork sandwiches that are piled high on thick Texas toast with coleslaw and cheddar! Yum! Excellent fries here too. They really know their stuff here when it comes to the beers too, so don't be shy to ask them to recommend a brew or two to go perfectly with your delicious meal. You can find Foran's Grand Trunk Pub at 612 Woodward Ave.
♦ Bucharest Grill ♦
Bucharest Grill is a great place to get your grub on when you're in the Detroit area, with delicious Middle Eastern food as well as simpler offerings such as hot dogs. The chicken shawarma is probably our favorite thing on the menu, with that melt-in-your-mouth goodness that you can't get from any other dish. They give you such enormous portions here too! You'll definitely have to take some with you. The hommous is really great here, nice and lemony. And they will give you as much garlic sauce as you want, at no additional charge! Their curly fries are beloved by everyone who comes into the restaurant, and that includes us. THye are amazing. Very higly recommended for their sandwiches, entrees, and of course that great service! You can find Bucharest Grill at 2040 Park Ave.
♦ American Coney Island ♦
American Coney Island, along with its neighbor Lafayette Coney Island, is one of our favorite places to grab a great hot dog or slider when we are in the Detroit area. This is our favorite stop after a day at the auto show, but any day of the year it's a great place to fill up on the cheap! Delicious hot coffee, perfectly cooked hamburgers and hot dogs, and of course those famous fries. Everything here is much like it was back in the day when your parents or maybe even your grandparents used to visit it, and that old fashioned charm is one of the things that we love so much about it. This one gets one of our highest recommendations, not just for the nostalgia, but for the great service and delicious food! You can find American Coney Island at 115 Michigan Ave.
♦ Coach Insignia ♦
Coach Insignia is another one of our favorite steakhouses in Detroit, located on top of the Ren Cen. There's no more elegant location for a romantic dinner with that special someone, and needless to say, taking them here will make a big impression. We absolutely adore the vodka gimlets here. We love the twist of the lobster corn dogs... it's like upscale trendy carnival fare! If you are a fan of short ribs, you will be very pleased with the ones that they serve here. Perfectly prepared and served with delicious chipotle sauce. Yum! The pappardelle is excellent here too. As far as the sides go, you'd be a fool to try and resist the garlic mashed potatoes, and the onion rings are equally addictive! For dessert you cannot go wrong with their chocolate torte. You can find Coach Insignia at 200 Renaissance Ctr.
