ALLEN PARK,
MICHIGAN
is a small city located in the Downriver area of Wayne County, and it
has many wonderful restaurants and bars for you to visit when you are
in the area. Here are our absolute top choices for dining and drinking
in the 48101 zip code. We hope you'll enjoy them!
♦ Star Diner ♦
Star Diner is one of the newest restaurants to open up in Allen Park,
but it has quickly become one of the most beloved. They were originally
open only until 2PM, but have recently extended their hours because of
the high demand for their wonderful food, and they now serve dinner six
nights a week. Their breakfasts are truly the best you will find in
Allen Park, and they are HUGE, from their delicious eggs florentine to
their out of this world eggs benedict! If you love french toast, you
will go wild for their bananas foster french toast. They've got plenty
of great non-breakfast items too like delicious buffalo chicken
sandwiches. This place is also kind of known for its attractive
waitresses and their tight uniforms, just so you know! You can find
this wonderful diner at 15170 Southfield Road.
♦ Moro's Dining ♦ Moro's is one of
the most well-kept secrets in Allen Park, really a gem of an upscale
restaurant tucked into the downtown strip on Allen Road. High class
would not be an overstatement. We love all of the Italian specialties
here, including the fresh fish, the pastas, and all of the entrees. We
love the crisp salads here, and the fact that they mix your olive oil
and vinegar right at the table for you. We really enjoy their
fettuccine pesto and their veal mozzarella marinara, and for dessert
you can't go wrong with their flaming banana tropicale! They've got
delicious dirty martinis here too, and the olives are anchovy-stuffed!
Enough said. This is a real gem. You can find Moro's at 6535 Allen Rd.
♦ Blufin Sushi ♦ Blufin Sushi is
one of the newest restaurants in Allen Park, and already it's being
hailed as one of the best. We've had sushi in all of the downriver
haunts as well as the higher quality Dearborn and Detroit restaurants,
and this place stacks up with the best of the best. They have rolls
that you have never heard of before, and sushi towers that make
excellent meals. All of their spicy rolls are just fantastic, with a
memorable flavor rather than the same old one that you are used to
elsewhere. The Michigan Roll is one of the spicy ones that we enjoy the
best. Try their shrimp ceviche too, it's very fresh and served with
wonderful lotus chips! The entire menu gets our applause. You can find
Blufin Sushi at 15801 Southfield Rd.
♦ Tina's Place ♦ Tina's Place has
been recommended to us so many times by our friends in the Downriver
area, and we finally had to go ahead and give it a try. We were so
pleasantly surprised by the quality of everything here. The biscuits
were so mouth wateringly good, smothered in gravy and covered with eggs
and cheese! They serve breakfast here all day long, so whether you're
just in the mood for breakfast for lunch, or you got up late and
really need that eggs and bacon fix, they've got you covered.
Incredibly friendly staff and a great downtown Allen Park location that
really has a great feel to it. You can find this very highly
recommended diner at 6828 Allen Road. Don't miss it!
♦ Johnny Carino's ♦
Though we're not typically huge fans of chain restaurants, we have
really enjoyed the Johnny Carino's location in Allen Park. They have
amazing wine events at the end of each month, and for just under thirty
dollars at the time of this writing you can enjoy a four course meal
with the perfect wine pairings. Call them for details, you won't regret
it. The fresh bread that they give you at the beginning of the meal is
so good with that roasted garlic and olive oil. They have excellent
salads, amazing pastas, and fantastic soups and entrees too. The
service here is always really good, very friendly waiters and
waitresses who make you feel right at home. We love the dim ambiance
and find that it's perfect for romantic dates! Pair that with their
great drink selection and you've got a real winner. Find Johnny
Carino's at 23075 Outer Drive.

♦ The Broadcast Booth ♦ The
Broadcast Booth is our favorite sports bar downriver, because it's got
a much slicker appearance than most sports bars, still with the
requisite memorabilia, but with more focus on cozy seating, a gorgeous
bar, a game room, and great music. When we've been there the music
seems to skew towards eighties and nineties pop and rock, and we love
that. Their steak bites are really delicious, and their fried cheese
ravioli also gets props from us. Their signature beer on draft is
Moosehead, and if you've never tried that, it's excellent. They also
make a mean Black and Tan, and very good martinis with specials on
those on certain days of the week. Located at 6550 Allen Rd.
♦ On the Border Mexican Cantina & Restaurant ♦ On
the Border is another one of the chain restaurants in Allen Park that
has captured our attention. We love their endless enchiladas for less
than nine bucks, and we also love their drink selection! They often
have parties to celebrate new drinks on the menu, recently introducing
the Sauza-rita and some great new Mexican beers just in time for Cinco
de Mayo. The jumbo frozen margarita is also excellent. The fish tacos
are one of our favorite items on the menu, and their guacamole is fresh
and delicious! We recommend coming in for happy hour to save on those
delish drinks, and sign up for their email list for coupons because
they send some really great offers on a regular basis (but not so
regularly that you'll be tempted to unsubscribe). You can find On the
Border at 3310 Fairlane Dr off of Outer Dr.
♦ Sylvia's Super Sub Shop ♦ Sylvia's
Super Sub Shop has been in business at least since the early 80s if our
memory doesn't fail us, perhaps longer! There's a reason that they have
been here so long. The subs and the pizza are just excellent. They also
had a deal where you bring in your Southgate MJR movie stub for a
discount, give them a call to see if that's still in effect! Definitely
a nice "dinner and a movie" kind of savings. They have a very good taco
salad here too. Our only complaint about this place is that they don't
offer free refills. Other than that, this is a real Downriver gem that
we couldn't bear to leave off this list! Try their party subs and
pizzas for your next event! Located at 4531 Allen Rd!
♦ Manuel's Taco Hut ♦ Manuel's Taco
Hut has been in that familiar location on Ecorse Rd for as long as we
can remember, and we are glad that they're still going strong so many
decades after they first opened. Their quality has never changed,
always that same high quality as it was on day one. They have delicious
salsa that's a bit thin and watery (we like it that way!) and that
makes it perfect for double duty as a hot sauce on your burrito! Their
chunky beef enchiladas are one of our favorite things on this menu, and
we actually really love the fact that they don't use any enchilada
sauce on them. We think they're much better simply smothered in cheese!
Unfortunately they do not serve alcohol here, but that makes it a very
family friendly restaurant too, which is a rarity. Very highly
recommended and found at 16806 Ecorse Rd!
♦ Leo's Coney Island ♦ Leo's Coney
Island is one of the very best breakfast spots in Allen Park, and after
so many years of listening to the recommendations of our friends, we
finally had to give it a shot. It's been very busy on the few occasions
that we've been here, and yet we never found ourselves waiting very
long for a table. This isn't the kind of place where you're going to
get a warm welcome and a bunch of chit chat, and we guess that's why
they're able to keep it moving so quickly here. Yet you never feel
rushed (or at least we never have!) and the ambiance is very
comfortable and inviting, so even a short stay feels like you relaxed
there for quite some time. Other than their delicious breakfasts, we
would very highly recommend their lemon rice soup. So good! And the
gyros with that flavor-packed tzatziki sauce? Just wonderful. You can
find Leo's at 23233 Outer Drive! Don't miss it!
